Hello Everyone,
The team has been super busy doing some incredibly renovations in the Velvet Rasputin side of the Catnose Comics Universe. Here’s a sampling of what’s going on:
Rasputin Barxotka Redrawn
Mandarr gave me a marvelous belated Christmas present; free re-inking and coloring services to redraw Rasputin Barxotka’s first twenty four pages. This gift is a huge help for the project. As I watched my friend’s work progress, she motivated me to help her out in this tedious yet, rewarding process. See what we’ve accomplished this weekend:
Dissident Priest Changes
I care about this graphic novel a lot. I am a bit obsessed with (Former) Soviet Bloc crime history in the 80′s and 90′s. Fear of the nuclear arms race tainted my childhood with constant nightmares. The fall of the Soviet Union was a major turning point in my life. I always wanted to understand why the “Evil Empire” that President Reagan railed against collapsed so spectacularly. The Velvet Rasputin project as a whole has given the motivation to understand how internal corruption tore a once powerful country apart. It helped me understand a people and a nation I once feared. It helped me learn powerful historical lessons, that the United States is failing to heed. It’s been an amazingly cathartic metaphorical outlet. I recently hired a research assistant to help me get the historical stuff right. I spent forty dollars in books this month alone to make sure this comic has the proper tone. The three core projects of Velvet Rasputin, Rasputin Catamite, Rasputin Barxotka and Dissident Priest are that important to me as an artist and a human being.
Part of the reason I hired Mandarr, Paul, El Niño and Ram Lama to help me create my art had to do with me being already burnt out from doing webcomics. Yet, I am too passionate about the craft to stop. Last year I was juggling eleven webcomics. I ended up cancelling, concluding or putting most of them into hiatus. Rasputin Barxotka remains in my style and Mandarr’s, because it is absolutely perfect for the story, and will not go into hiatus. Rasputin Catamite is already being redrawn from beginning to end. Dissident Priest is my favorite piece out of the set of three, and it’s about time I gave it the art it deserves.
Tristan Tarwater’s Transcribes Dissident Priest
Tristan J. Tarwater, author of The Valley of Ten Crescents fantasy series, is helping out with the Catnose Comics accessibility project by creating some amazing transcripts for Dissident Priests. These are very cinematic transcripts and are sure to capture the attention of our blind readers and those people out there who enjoy reading scripts. I feel very honored to have such a talented writer assisting me with this project. The fact that she is a huge fan of the graphic novel, makes it an especially wonderful treat.
That’s all for now!
Thank you for tuning in this week.
Cheers,
Vas
Happy New Year!
I am so excited about 2012. I’m working with Mandarr, Paul and our newest team members Ram Lama and El Niño on some really exciting new content for the Velvet Rasputin line of webcomics. I’ve also just finished remodeling my studio. Other than my door needing moulding, it’s absolutely perfect for my needs. Here’s some pictures of what it looks like for your viewing pleasure.
Catnose Comics Winter Schedule Change
After some discussion with the project’s financial backer, we have come to the rather painful decision to place SOUP Wars in hiatus until 2013. Our viewers deserve high quality content and a reasonable weekly update schedule. Unfortunately, this requires a greater amount of income than we are currently generating. So rather than shortchange our site visitors and sacrifice the production values for this project, we have decided to focus on other projects for the time being. We hate disappointing our fans and friends, but we’d rather delay the project than not provide our very best.
Rasputin Catamite on hiatus until Summer Solstice 2012 or after we receive $250 in donations, whichever comes first.
We figured out the 2012 minimum budget for Rasputin Catamite. It’s pretty barebones, but it should cover what we’ll need for the year.
Please consider helping us cover our minimum expenses for 2012 by making a donation to Rasputin Catamite. You can donate as little as $1, and we’ll express our appreciation by giving you access to our awesome donation wallpapers. Whenever we hit $250 in combined donations the site will get out of hiatus mode, and we’ll add a bonus comic. Any money we earn beyond our minimum expenses will be used to raise Mandarr and Ram’s pay to a reasonable market rate. I will also be able to get paid for my writing and website maintenance, instead of just volunteering as I currently do. Whatever is left will be used to give work to other folks, pay for advertising, and to create bonus features. Rasputin Catamite is truly a labor of love for all of us, and we want to turn this into a sustainable job that pays our bills. To donate, visit http://rasputincatamite.com/ and check out the tip jar in the left side bar.
The preparation for the new season have been chaotic, but it is finally here!
I have been so crazy busy with hiring new artists, a historian and pretty much revamping all of the Catnose Comics websites. This made a mess of my ability to communicate with my wonderful visitors. Thankfully, I believe that the results of this excessive amount of work was definitely worth my period of absence. The Velvet Rasputin Information site has been split into two, so now VelvetRasput.INFO and VelvetRasputin.COM are completely revamped and a ton easier to navigate. As you’ve probably noticed this site looks a lot different as well. Now, here are some of the biggest bits of news I’d like to share.
This season’s new webcomic and miscellaneous project programming schedule:
Concluded, cancelled or on hiatus:
Dear visitors,
The Catnose Comics® website has undergone a major change. The focus now here is on what we are and what we do. The vintage Nine Lives of Comics web archives were always supposed to be a nice bonus for site, but they ended up overpowering it. I decided to take care of that at long last.
Catnose.com site is the information portal for VAS Littlecrow‘s print and webcomic publishing arm, Catnose Comics®. It’s supposed to let visitors know that it publishes Nine Lives of Catnose, The Velvet Rasputin Collection and other titles such as Moving Forcefully Into Scope. Unfortunately, people assumed over and over again that Catnose Comics® and The Nine Lives of Catnose were the same thing because the webcomic was right on the front page. Truth is, they’re not. Nine Lives of Catnose is Catnose Comics® original signature comic title which ran from 1998-2009, initially in print and later as a webcomic for a modeling and adult star portal. Nine Lives of Catnose is currently on reruns. I haven’t produced any new ones since then, and the series is not coming back. The archives for this title are more for historical purposes than anything else. Catnose Comics® is thriving and still publishing new material. We have hired with a bunch of new freelance artists to create some amazing new content for The Velvet Rasputin Collection. We’re even in talks with some additional artists for potential new titles that fit within that collection. We want everyone to know this, but it’s kind of hard when we have a cute webcomic dazzling everyone into not noticing anything else.
I know that some of our fans will be disappointed when they see a lack of webcomics on the front page. That’s understandable. Fortunately, the weekly updates and archives are still here, so there’s no need to fret. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this change may cause, but to make up for the tiny bit of chaos, I would like to offer a banner ad-free site. No kidding. Since our focus here is to advertise our own publishing endeavors, it seems counterproductive to plaster banners for competitors and other products.
Thank you for bearing with us! Oh yeah, and be sure to check in on our new Winter 2011-2012 season update schedule coming to this site very soon. Before I go, watch me and Loki roll some comic art logs for the fire.
Cheers,
Vas
As I mentioned previously, Killer Dyke has been cancelled due to low viewership. The project was my husband’s baby, but his heart just wasn’t in it anymore. So, we came to the mutual agreement that it was time to let it go. As a result, I am currently selling the domain name, KillerDyke.com on eBay.
This domain name is pretty memorable and can be used for the following type of websites:
We’ve been making a TON of changes as we’re getting ready for the 2011 Winter Season of Catnose Comics. Some comics are ending, others are changing schedule, and still others are growing bigger and better. There’s going to be a ton of changes to the mailing list and to the way you learn about comic updates. Here’s some of what’s been happening:
Thank you for visiting Catnose.com today. We hope that you enjoy today’s latest front page comic. In case you are wondering, I really did have a habit of falling asleep during wax jobs. Yikes!
If you haven’t been here in a while, you will notice that this website has clean new look. But the changes aren’t merely cosmetic.
The blog has been moved from the front page to it’s own redesigned section, so now the front page is a lot less cluttered: http://catnose.com/blog/
Our new about page is a lot more in-depth: http://catnose.com/our-story/
The Catnose Comics webcomic collections page is also a lot easier to read: http://catnose.com/the-best-two-webcomic-collections-youve-never-seen/
Now we have a new privacy policy and nicer mailing list sign up page: http://catnose.com/mailing-list-and-privacy-policy/
Want to advertise on any of our sites? Take a look at our new advertiser info page: http://catnose.com/advertise/
As if that weren’t awesome enough, we split the Velvet Rasputin information page in two and redesigned them as well. Visit the business page at http://velvetrasput.info/ and the webcomics lab at http://velvetrasputin.com/ to see what we’ve done.
